Soroka & Associates Sponsors the 8th Annual Brain Injury Awareness 5K
On March 24, Soroka & Associates was pleased to sponsor the Brain Injury Awareness 5K & Walk, with all proceeds directly benefiting brain injury survivors. This year’s walk was a great success!
The event is hosted each year by the undergraduate student organization Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience (BRAIN). BRAIN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit student organization at Ohio State dedicated to increasing awareness of brain injuries and other neurological conditions. All proceeds directly benefit brain injury survivors, with race participants wearing blue (the color for brain injury awareness) and green (the color for traumatic brain injury awareness).
Per The Ohio State University, “The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, The Ohio State University Chronic Brain Injury program, and BRAIN [work] to provide comprehensive communal and wellness support for brain injury survivors.”
In the past seven years, BRAIN has raised over $30,000 to support brain injury survivors and their families. Last year’s race proceeds provided the following benefits:
- $500 donation to a therapeutic foundation, called Dreams on Horseback
- $1800 to funding fitness scholarships in partnership with Ohio State Rehabilitation facilities and their “NeuroWell” program
- $1000 to the CBI program to fund Travel Awards for students doing brain injury research to share their discoveries at national and international conferences
Soroka & Associates is proud to support BRAIN’s work in the community.
Firm founder Roger Soroka tells us why brain injury research is one of his greatest passions and priorities:
Brain injury awareness is very important to me. I handle a lot of brain injury cases. Brain injuries are often misdiagnosed and disregarded, because many times, visually, the person suffering looks absolutely normal. However, there are few injuries as devastating as a brain injury. A brain injury may have a lifelong impact on a person and put them at higher risk for dementia, Alzheimer’s, and numerous other neurological diseases.
Many times victims suffering from brain injury are afraid to speak up and hide the deficiencies they are experiencing. It’s important for me to support an organization that brings awareness to the severity of brain injuries and offers support to those affected by them.
Everyone here at Soroka & Associates is thrilled to have sponsored this important event. We thank all supporters, sponsors, participants, and students for their hard work in making this year’s 5K and Walk a big success!
